Finishing up

July 9, 2011

Hey Friends…

We’re only about a week away from our trip…are you excited yet?!

Many of you have slowed down in your posting as we’ve gotten into the summer. And I’ve gotten distracted with other things as well…it happens to all of us. So here’s what I want to do…I’ve got a few final questions I’m going to ask & I’d love to hear your answers to as you finish up the book. Looking forward to heading to North Carolina with you in a week!

1. What most stuck out to you from the book? Is there an idea/lesson/principle that you are going to take away?

2. What are you most looking forward to about the North Carolina trip?

3. What are you feeling as we head toward the trip…nervous, excited, happy, ambivalent, etc? Tell me what AND why you feel that way. It’ll be helpful for us to have conversations about what we’re feeling as we’re headed in so that we can be supportive of each other.

Jehanne (week 7)

June 24, 2011

Don’t forget to get caught up on any blogging you’ve missed!

So Boston has come and gone. They shared some great stories with us this past Sunday about their experiences! This coming Sunday, the Canton trip starts. And exactly one month from today, we’ll have returned home and will be getting to share with our Flipd friends about our North Carolina experience!

This week, I only want you to answer questions 1 and 3, but since I’m only asking you to answer a couple questions, I want you to try to think some more about your answers and make them a little longer. If you’re looking for some good examples of great answers, check out Catherine’s or Paula’s…you can tell they both put in a lot of thought and time into what they’re learning. Let me know if you have any questions…looking forward to reading your thoughts!

Leipzig & Stafford

June 17, 2011

Don’t forget to get caught up on any blogging you’re missing before diving into this week.

This week I’m in Boston with the 7th grade team. We’ve been having an incredible time together and it makes me look forward to our trip even more. God wants to use each of us – individually and as a team – to change the world in significant ways. He wants to work through us on our trips, but he also wants to work through us while we’re home. This summer before we even go to North Carolina, we have lots of opportunities to serve others, so look around and see where God might lead you.

At the end of the Leipzig chapter there are six questions. Go ahead and answer each of those questions in your book and on here. Looking forward to seeing what you have to share!

Jon, Billy, and Paul (week 5)

June 8, 2011

If you haven’t blogged on any of the previous weeks, make sure you go do that first!

This Saturday our first team takes off for the summer! Our 7th grade team is headed out on Saturday afternoon for an amazing week…please be praying for them as they prepare for a life-changing week.

This week, Zach interviewed Jon Foreman of Switchfoot (Jon’s one of my favorite artists) and told us the stories of Billy Mills and Paul Newman. Tell us about one thing from each person (Jon, Billy & Paul) that stuck out to you or that was interesting to you. Then answer the questions on page 75 here on the blog (and write them down in your book so you can look at them in the future!).

B.B. (week 4)

May 31, 2011

f you’re reading this & are behind in your blogging from other weeks, go do that first!  Also, don’t forget to participate in the discussion on last week’s questions.

As you prepare to answer your questions, I want to quickly remind you of a few things that we’ve talked about along the way in our blogging journal. Many of you are giving some great thought to your answers, doing your reading, and learning a ton. I want to encourage us all to really take our time and answer the questions thoroughly (that means more than one sentence to an answer :) , and to do all of the reading. This is an awesome opportunity to learn a lot. Also, please use correct grammar, punctuation, etc in your posts.

This week’s reading was on the jazz legend, B.B. King. I’d like you to answer all the questions in your book, but answer 1, 2, and 5 here on the blog. If you have any questions or if you’re having problems getting it to post, just email me. Looking forward to some great thoughts!

Quixote (week 3)

May 24, 2011

If you’re reading this & you haven’t blogged from the first week (Passions vs. Interests & Amy), go do that first!  Also, don’t forget to participate in the discussion on last week’s questions.

For this week, you only had to read one chapter, Quixote. My parents use to have a picture from the Man of La Mancha hanging up in our living room when I was growing up. I really enjoyed the reading this week as it helped me to actually know what the story behind the picture was!

What did you think of the story of Quixote? What was your favorite part? Go ahead and answer each of the 7 questions from the end of the chapter here on the blog…please number them so we can know what you’re talking about in your answers. Thanks!

George (week 2)

May 17, 2011

If you’re reading this & you haven’t blogged from the first week (Passions vs. Interests & Amy), go do that first!  Also, don’t forget to participate in the discussion on last week’s questions.

For this week, you only had to read one chapter, George. One of the things that I really love about this book is Zach’s approach. The idea that he’s talking about, that we should each pursue the passions that we have that God has given us, seems like a great idea but can be kind of hard to do sometimes. However, Zach made this book full of all sorts of examples of people who have done exactly that…living out their passions.

After you’re done with your reading for the week, answer the 1st question at the end of the chapter only in your book. Then answer the rest both in your book and on here. Don’t forget to read others’ answers and comment on their ideas, too!

Passions vs. Interests & Amy (week 1)

May 14, 2011

Here we go!  In just a few short months we’ll be driving down to North Carolina to put into practice God’s call to “love your neighbor as yourself”. But between now and then, we’re going to spend some time preparing. This week, Zach dives right into thinking about what it looks like to live passionately and starts giving us some great examples to follow (with many more to come!)

So here’s how this will work.  Each week I’m going to ask you to process some of the questions at the end of the chapter by posting your answers on here. I also might post a question or two of my own for you to respond to. Please take the time to respond to them below by leaving a comment (make sure you include your first name & last initial on the comment so I know who it is).  And when you come each week, make sure to review the previous week’s conversation and read what your teammates have written & respond to & interact with them…we’re in this together!  When you respond (either to the questions or your teammates), take your time & write out your thoughts.  Be honest with your thoughts…honesty builds community & will allow us to trust each other and really grow as a team. Don’t just try to finish your answers as quickly as you can…make me read a ton ; )  Seriously…the more you think through this stuff, the more it’ll help you prepare.  Another good idea each week is to talk through the questions with your parents.  I’m sure they’d be glad to take the time to listen to your answers and discuss your thoughts!

In your own words what’s the difference between a passion and an interest?

There are 4 groupings of questions at the end of chapter 2. Share your thoughts/answers with us.

Welcome to NC 2011!

May 7, 2011

You found it!  Here’s where you’ll interact weekly with your team in the next several months as we prepare for our trip to North Carolina together.  Check back here each week for a few questions & to post on your friends’ thoughts.  Looking forward to the conversation…

People Versus Peoples: God’s Commission to Those Who Follow Him

June 24, 2010

You made it!  Thanks for joining the team in reading this book to prepare for our trip.  I hope you learned a lot!  Go ahead and answer questions 1, 4, & 5 below.  You will need to go back and look at the chapters that you read before to refresh your memory to share with us.  Looking forward to hearing what you learned…
